Trends in Newspapers the Focus of Editor & Marketeer Conference

 

 

Trends in newsroom design, new newspaper launches and great newspaper marketing ideas are among the themes of next month’s World Editor and Marketeer Conference & Expo, which will examine the new role of the printed newspaper in the multi-media environment and will showcase the best in print and multi-media developments.

 

The conference, to be held on 18 and 19 October in Amsterdam, will run consecutively with the World Digital Publishing Conference & Expo. The two events, held over three days, will give newspaper executives the opportunity to explore best practices on a wide range of newspaper operations at one convenient venue.

Sessions and confirmed speakers for the 10th World Editor and Marketeer Conference & Expo include:

-  Research that changed the newspaper, which will focus on how research is being used to develop new, targeted and more time-relevant newspapers. The session will feature Linda Sease, Marketing Director for Scripps Newspapers in the USA, and Maureen Duffy, CEO of the Newspaper Marketing Association in the United Kingdom.

-  The newsroom of the future, which will examine trends in newsroom design and the impact on content and costs. The session will be led by Jan ’t’ Hart, Deputy Editor in Chief of de Volkskrant in The Netherlands.

-  Models for the new media company, which will feature case studies of how several newspapers are re-imaging their businesses and evolving into multi-media companies. The session will feature Arend Van den berg, Managing Director & Chief Editor of Z24, the Netherlands, Changhee Park, Director of Business Development, Ilgan Sports in Korea, and Grzegorz Piechota, Special Projects Editor for Gazeta Wyborcza in Poland.

-  The new circulation department, which will examine how technology is helping newspaper companies to create new structures and new models which deliver the newspaper to the reader at the right time, in the right place and at the right price. The session will be led by Mark Rix, MAN Media Sales in the United Kingdom.

-  Twenty great marketing ideas, including the winners of the World Young Reader Prize, the annual award from WAN which honours the best strategies for increasing young readership of newspapers.

-  Loyalty and customer relationship management, which will examine top marketing ideas for keeping readers loyal. Speakers will include Tommaso Prennushi, founder of TP& Associates in Spain, and Robert Barnard, Founder and Partner of D-Code in Canada.

-  New print products for increasingly selective audiences, which will examine the free newspaper phenomenon, and the explosion in new paid-for newspaper launches. Speakers will include Piet Bakker, Professor of Cross Media Content at the Hogeschool of Journalism and Communication in the Netherlands, and Rajiv Verma, CEO of newly launched MINT in India.

In addition, the conference will feature a keynote address on world press trends by Timothy Balding, CEO of the World Association of Newspapers, who will present the latest data on the development of newspapers world-wide.
