Newspapers in Education (NIE) programmes are helping educators teach a full range of subjects, including basic maths and reading skills plus an understanding of the role of the newspaper in a democratic society. Amongst other things, WAN creates free resources such as a set of fun exercises to take children into the pages of a newspaper.

Using stories, commentary, art, maps and photos in the local newspapers as the raw material in a classroom.

In a developing country, a newspaper can often be the only up-to-date - or simply the only - resource a teacher has.

Activities include training in Brazil, China, Colombia, Indonesia, Jordan, Lebanon, Liberia, Mali, Morocco Russia, Romania, Thailand.
