If “all journalism is local”, then two newspaper groups in Scandinavia are pointing the way toward a successful future - and they’re doing it with innovative, multi-media newspapers.

Case studies of the two newspaper companies - Adresseavisen in Norway and Nordjyske in Denmark - will be presented by their chief executives at the World Newspaper Congress, to be held in Göteborg, Sweden, from 1 to 4 June. The companies are combining local focus with multi-media innovation to carve unique places for themselves in the media landscape.

More than 1,500 publishers, chief editors and other senior newspaper executives are expected in Göteborg for the Congress, World Editors Forum and Info Services Expo 2008, the global meetings of the world’s press. There is still time to register for the events, organised by the World Association of Newspapers and hosted by the Swedish Newspaper Publishers Association. Full details can be found at www.wansweden2008.com.

Andresseavisen, whose flagship is a regional daily distributed in the middle part of Norway with a focus on the commercial district of Trondheim, is combining long-term investment on its online channels with strategic alliances with regional newspapers. CEO Per Axel Koch will present an overview of both commercial and editorial strategies.

Nordjyske, which operates in northern Denmark, is one of the best examples of a multimedia organisation with newspapers at its heart - in addition to a regional daily and an assortment of weeklies, it produces radio, TV and online out of a single newsroom. Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief Per Lyngby will discuss the company’s organisational development and results.
