Philip Meyer has had a lengthy career in academia and journalism. Following a 23-year career with Knight Ridder as reporter, Washington correspondent and director of news and circulation research, he became Kenan professor in 1981 at the University of North Carolina, where he now holds its Knight Chair in Journalism. His publications include Precision Journalism, Ethical Journalism and The Newspaper Survival Book.

Mike Smith is managing director of the Media Management Center at Northwestern University (Evanston, Illinois, USA). The centre is an executive education and research institute affiliated with the Kellogg School of Management and the Medill School of Journalism. Smith oversees all of the centre’s seminars and teaches journalism and leadership in its programs. He was a journalist and editor for 25 years before joining the centre in 1990.

Prior to joining The Globe and Mail, Mr. Muir was Vice-President of Advertising Sales at Southam/Hollinger Inc. and has held sales and marketing roles at a number of newspapers in Canada and the United States.
