Description: To appeal to the growing youth of India, the Times of India created a newspaper to engage and interact with young readers.  The Times of India, Student Edition was designed to reflect the attitudes, mindsets, interests and worldviews of young readers, and is edited exclusively for the Indian teen. This newspaper highlighted local, national and international news relevant to young readers, school events, new trends, unusual and "funky" news items, career outlines, relationship advice, style and fitness issues, as well as many other items relevant to the youth of today. Additionally, the student-friendly newspaper featured articles written especially by students and teachers.  The Times of India appoints two school reporters in each member school ansd their reports are regularly printed in the Times of India, Student Edition. Student members are offered Times NIE Privileges in the form of a series of redeemable vouchers that can be used for various products and at restaurants. Contests and games are used to stimulate the readers' minds, and winners are awarded prizesfor involvement. Along with the newspaper, an activity workbook is also provided as a teaching tool for teachers. Adult involvement is seen in the form of the Times NIE Principal Guest Editor Program that invites principals, teachers and students to join the editorial team and design issues of the Student Edition.

Audience: Students     

Age group:  Primary: 9, 10 , 11, 12, year olds. Secondary: 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 year olds.

Results: The Times NIE program grew from 300.000 members in 2004-2005 to 445.000 members in 2005-2006 following the introduction of the Student Edition. Student membership and newspaper circulation has grown by almost 50%, and the program now includes 2000 schools.
