Reinventing the Newsroom master class participants will gain insight into key issues facing newspaper executives who operate in competitive, technologically-advanced environments such as:

  • What people want from media, and how expectations vary by market and platform
  • How to build strategies that focus on delivering value to the communities we serve
  • What drives social networks and how can we engage and contribute to online communities

  • How to lead with confidence in times of great uncertainty.

Why joining the WEF - UCLAN Master Class?

The Reinventing the Newsroom Master Class will highlight examples of newspaper innovation and consumer engagement from around the globe. Experts from leading media companies and the Journalism Leaders Programme team will offer participants tips to set up a genuine multimedia newsroom and to ensure that your organisation's change initiative gets widespread support.

You'll get to see integrated newsrooms in action when you visit two cutting-edge operations highlighted in the 2008 Trends in Newsrooms report - the Manchester Evening News and the Lancashire Evening Post - and have in-depth discussions with the editors of the Washington Post and The Times, London.

The Reinventing the Newsroom Master Class encourages both individual and group learning that is reinforced through site visits, fresh case studies, interactive exercises and hands-on workshops in the cuttingedge Media Factory.

What they're saying:

"We have been hugely impressed by the structure and content of the programme...All our delegates feel they are now much better equipped to tackle the challenges they face in leading the development of our newsrooms, thanks to what they have learnt in Preston."
Neil Benson, Editorial Director, Trinity Mirror Regionals

"Our delegates came on the course to look into the future. They left with a clear vision of how to take our business forward into the digital era."

David Rowell, Group Editorial Development Executive, Johnston Press

"This is purely a programme that is tailored for your development and allows you to progress within the company and benefit the company you're with... it's been brilliant, it's been a blast. I'd say the course is absolutely bang on. You can't afford to miss it really."
